“The color blue has been found by an overwhelming amount of people to be associated with feelings of calm and peace… Staring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves’ frequency and puts us into a mild meditative state.”

About the Artist

Aloha! I’m Alicyn Reiko. In 2015 I moved to O’ahu from Los Angeles. Coming from Filipino-Japanese descent and having grandparents who were born and raised on Maui, I felt it was a long awaited homecoming and quickly fell in love with the beautiful 'āina.

My grandfather was an incredible abstract artist (view some of his work here!) who would teach me about art, show me different techniques and how to view the world from his perspective when I was growing up. When he passed in early 2019, I inherited some of his art supplies and acrylics. I knew it was time to start creating pieces of my own to pay homage to my grandfather and capture the gorgeous waters and culture of Aloha.

Now based in Southern California, creating is what brings me back to the island. Mahalo nui loa for allowing me to continue my passion. I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I enjoy bringing them to life!
